Nairobi Fashion Week - Learn, build, Isnpire.

The Nairobi Fashion Week is the first ever of its kind, an fashion affair to be held on the 23rd to the 25th of August which seeks to celebrate the immense creative talent being nurtured in Africa through the fusion of a number of local Fashion Designers, Sponsors, Models, Publicists, Stylists, Models, The media, Exhibitors, Marketers, fashion bloggers and key industry stakeholders and fashion consumers from across the region and beyond as we sample and showcase the very best from East Africa's fashion hub, Nairobi to the rest of the globe. Our vision is to bring creativity and innovation to fashion and forecast the future of African fashion and synergize Kenya into the fashion world. It is a fashion incubation that brings together Fashion Designers, Sponsors, Models, Publicists, Stylists, Models, The media, Exhibitors, Marketers, fashion bloggers and key industry stakeholders and fashion consumers from across the region and beyond as we sample and showcase the very best from East Africa's fashion hub, Nairobi to the rest of the globe.The Nairobi Fashion Week proves to be more than just a glamorous event as we are in liaison with the charity initiative, The Lance Foundation. This is an initiative which seeks to support throat cancer patients through funding their treatment and we are more than honoured to be facilitating the treatment of three patients through this event. Here is how it works; a fraction of every ticket will be preceded towards The Lance Foundation. For example, from a regular ticket costing Kshs. 1,500/=, Kshs. 500/= will be donated to the charity initiative. A VIP ticket costing Kshs. 4,000 /= will contribute Kshs. 700/= to the same.

The Nairobi Fashion Week will hold its gala night on the 23rd of August which will be the opening night of the 3 day extravaganza at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi, Kenya. This evening will feature household names such as Enzie Porter, Hers by Hellinah Design, Bessy Bugo Jewelries, Kyoko Musemu, Atsenga Kreations, Naomy Design and Gonzala Leather. The following day, 24th day of August 2013, will showcase the best of Shenu Hooda, Atsabina, Afro Street Collection, Vaishali Creations, Severine Devaily and Zambarau accessories. Then after will be the Finale Night on the 25th of August which will mark the end of this auspicious fashion adventure. Here, we shall appreciate the works of Ebony by Rinda, Mohammed Bana, Hameed Abdul, Dafina Fashions, JM Designs and Daddy de Maximo (Rwanda).

The Nairobi Fashion Week will also feature photography, workshops and classes that will enhance knowledge transfer, information exchange and networking opportunities across board thereby nurturing platforms and engaging opportunities. These have been on the catwalks and in the magazines for more than 5  years now, but as we all know, street fashion usually has a considerable lag on designer couture. Celebs are often the major trendsetters, as they have the means and the publicity to promote their favoured designs, and once enough celebs have been snapped wearing a certain style, it filters down to the most fashion conscious members of the public, and so on (see The five levels of fashion). This process sometimes takes years, depending on how unusual the new design is.

the corporate look .how do you wear high waisted skirts out?  You don’t want to look like you’re headed to a business meeting, and we think the key is sleeveless, sleeveless, sleeveless.  Consider this look, paired with fun red heels or black but with red.

The high waisted skirt is one such example of this lag phenomenon. Because we've all been wearing skirts on our hips for years, having a waistline that was six inches higher felt - and looked - distinctly odd at first.
High waisted skirts and pants are super-stylish (I just bought three pair of high waist pants and two skirts for my wardrobe!) but remember they can be a little tricky on a short waist because they tend to visually shorten it. However there is a  styling trick to make it work for you, which is:
Streamline your outfit with a layering that 'connects' with the bottomYou can also work around the rule by wearing a vest or cardigan that matches with the color of the bottom to skim over the point where your waist has been shortened. So despite your short waist you can still wear a high waisted bottom like that girl in that picture  provided :-)






Keeping the rest of your outfit simple when wearing a high waisted skirt is an absolute must. They look best with plain tank tops tucked in, and ballet flats or simple heels. Unlike high waisted jeans, they are a flattering style for most figures, especially when the skirt falls just above the knee. Wear the classic high waisted pencil skirt in black or grey for work, and the fuller tulip-shaped or A-line high waisted skirt in bright colours (preferably floral) on your days off. F.Y.I :avoid the stockings( such a naughty trend in Nairobi nowadays, the girls wear stockings with everything and mixing the colours too making nairobi on a friday/saturday loook like a rainbow citiy !!)
